NAGPUR: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis told the legislative council on Thursday that the BKC-Colaba second phase of Metro 3 in Mumbai would open by May.

“Metro work has started rapidly in Maharashtra. Now the work of Mumbai Metro 3 has entered the final stage. We have opened the first phase for passenger traffic. The second phase is from BKC to Colaba. This phase will give Mumbai a real lifeline. Due to this, 17 lakh passengers will travel. So far, 6 lakh people are travelling … because the connectivity is not complete. We will open Metro 3 (Colaba to BKC) by May 2025,” Fadnavis said.

PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Aarey–BKC first phase of the underground Metro 3 in Oct, while also launching several other infrastructure projects in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The 10-station stretch of the Aqua Line between Aarey and BKC includes nine underground stations and was constructed at a cost of Rs 14,120 crore.

The Metro 3 project is expected to ease traffic and provide a critical transportation link between the city centre and suburbs, eventually catering to around 12 lakh daily passengers.

Metro 3 will run between Navy Nagar in the far south to Aarey depot in the north-central part of the city, and will include connections to other metro lines, monorail, suburban rail, inter-city rail, and the international airport.
