Varun Dhawan responds to nutritionist's criticism over black coffee and gut health: 'I’m glad you can use me as an example to educate people'

Varun Dhawan, known for his dedication to fitness and health, recently opened up about his dietary choices in a conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia. The actor revealed that he had stopped consuming black coffee in the morning due to gut issues and acidity. However, his comments sparked a response from nutritionist Prashant Desai, who challenged the claim, calling it inaccurate.
In his interview, Varun stated that starting the day with black coffee negatively impacted his gut health. He mentioned switching to blonde roast coffee, which he finds easier on the stomach, and advised against having black coffee on an empty stomach. He explained, “If you get up in the morning and start with only black coffee, even if you don’t have gut trouble, you will start having it.”
Nutritionist Prashant Desai took to Instagram to refute Varun’s statement, saying, “This is not true as I’ve been having black coffee for 15 years on an empty stomach with no issues. Everyone’s gut is different, like a fingerprint. While @varundvn may have had acidity, it doesn’t make it a universal truth. Food is personal; what doesn’t work for one person doesn’t apply to everyone.”

Responding to the criticism, Varun Dhawan wrote, “That’s totally true – it didn’t work for me. I’m glad it hasn’t affected you, and you’re healthy and super fit. I did mention that it’s not a one-size-fits-all situation if you listen further. I’m glad you can use me as an example to educate people, sir. But please give me some tips as well. Always happy to learn from an expert.”

During the interview, when asked if he still drinks black coffee, the Bhediya actor revealed that he used to, but no longer does. Instead, he now opts for blonde roast, which he finds gentler on the gut. Explaining his decision, Varun shared that he stopped consuming black coffee because it caused gut issues. He remarked, “If you get up in the morning and start with only black coffee, even if you don’t initially have gut trouble, you’ll eventually develop it.” When the host admitted to starting his day with black coffee, Varun advised against it.
Varun further explained that beginning the day with black coffee can lead to significant acidity. He recommended eating something before having coffee to avoid such problems. Emphasizing his point, the actor added that coffee provides a false sense of energy, making it less ideal as a first choice in the morning.
On the work front, Varun Dhawan is busy shooting for his upcoming film Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, where he stars alongside Janhvi Kapoor.
